What for?

Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC is a specialized edition of Windows 10 that is designed for use in embedded devices and other specialized applications. The LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise provides a stable, long-term release of the operating system with support and updates for up to 10 years.

The main idea behind Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is to provide a flexible, secure and reliable platform for IoT (Internet of Things) devices, such as point-of-sale systems, digital signage, industrial machines, and medical devices. This edition of Windows 10 provides the features and capabilities necessary to run these devices, while also providing the security and management tools needed to protect them from potential security threats.

Some of the options available with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC include support for x86 and ARM-based devices, Windows Update for Business, Device Guard, and Credential Guard for enhanced security, as well as support for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps and legacy Win32 apps. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC also includes features such as the ability to customize the user interface and control panel, remote management through the Device Management Console (DMC), and support for industry standards such as OPC UA.

To implement Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC on PCs, you would need to purchase the appropriate licenses and install the operating system on the device. Microsoft provides a range of tools and resources to help with deployment, configuration, and management of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, including the IoT Core Dashboard, the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Deployment Guide, and the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Device Management Console.

Which lisence should I use ?

Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is available in three main versions: Entry, Value, and High-End. Each version is designed to meet the needs of different types of devices and applications, with varying levels of features and functionality.

  1. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Entry: This is the most basic version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, designed for use in low-cost, low-power devices with simple computing requirements. It includes support for basic device management and security features, but lacks many of the advanced features of the higher-end versions.
  2. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Value: This version is designed for devices that require more advanced capabilities, such as digital signage and kiosks, retail point-of-sale systems, and medical devices. It includes enhanced security features such as Device Guard and Credential Guard, as well as support for a wider range of peripherals and legacy Win32 applications.
  3. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise High-End: This is the most advanced version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, designed for high-performance devices such as industrial control systems, robotics, and high-end medical equipment. It includes real-time processing capabilities, support for advanced networking and communication protocols, and the ability to
interface with custom hardware and software.

Each version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise provides a different set of features and capabilities, allowing developers and manufacturers to choose the best version for their specific requirements. The Entry version is suitable for simple, low-cost devices, while the Value version is appropriate for more advanced devices with higher security and peripheral requirements. The High-End version is designed for devices with high-performance computing needs and advanced communication protocols.
